This is a full-time, nine-month, faculty position responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses.
Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Reports to the chair.
Essential Job Functions Performs an equivalent of thirty teaching load credits (TLC) for the combined fall and spring semesters; reduction of teaching load through reassignment of duties is possible under certain circumstances.
May conduct supplemental instructional activities such as independent studies, internships, and advising.
Non-Essential Job Functions Provides services to the university and the profession and engages in research/scholarly/creative activities.
May supervise the work of students and/or graduate assistants.
May serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Knowledge and practical experience in the field in which the individual will be teaching.
Ability to effectively teach undergraduate and/or graduate students.
Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
Physical Demands Required Education Master’s degree in the field in which the individual will be teaching is required.
Required Experience and Training Practical experience sufficient to teach at a university level, through teaching or profession, is required.
Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching at the university level is preferred.
Special Conditions for Eligibility This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.

Austin State University, a member of The University of Texas System, is accepting applications for a lecturer position in first-year writing.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in teaching, assessing, and supporting our first-year writing program.
Responsibilities include teaching first-year writing courses and working with the Writing Program Coordinator and other instructors to implement, assess, and revise curriculum and instruction as needed.
This position is not tenure-track; the contract is renewable annually dependent upon annual evaluation.
The standard teaching load is 5-5 with a possible 4-4 load with a reassignment for research or service responsibilities.
Candidates must have at minimum a M.
A.
in English or related field with at least 18 graduate hours in English by the time of employment.
Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of student-centered methods or evidence-based practices for undergraduate writing instruction.
Expertise or experience in teaching 10th-12th grade writing, or developmental reading or writing, or teaching co-requisite models is a plus.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development, particularly in innovative uses of technology in the teaching of reading and writing.
Required Background Check Yes Salary Information Commensurate with Experience Benefit and Retirement Eligibility This position is eligible for participation in the Optional Retirement Program (ORP), subject to the position being full-time and at least 4 ½ months in length, or the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
