This is a full-time, nine-month or semester faculty appointment depending on the circumstances.
Responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses.
Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Reports to the chair.
Essential Job Functions Performs an equivalent of thirty teaching load credits (TLC) for the combined fall and spring semesters; reduction of teaching load through reassignment of duties is possible under certain circumstances.
May conduct supplemental instructional activities such as independent studies, internships, and advising.
Non-Essential Job Functions Provides services to the university and the profession and engages in research/scholarly/creative activities.
May supervise the work of student assistants.
May serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Knowledge and practical experience in the field in which the individual will be teaching.
Ability to effectively teach undergraduate and/or graduate students.
Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
Physical Demands Required Education Master’s degree in the field in which the individual will be teaching is required.
Required Experience and Training Practical experience sufficient to teach at a university level, through teaching or profession, is required.
Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching at a university level is preferred.
Special Conditions for Eligibility This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.
This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy.

Austin State University seeks qualified candidates for positions as Visiting Lecturers.
At the time of hire, applicants must have a master’s degree in biology or a related field.
The ideal candidates will have a Ph.
D.
or be a Ph.
D.
candidate in biology or a related field.
Preference will be given to individuals with experience teaching and mentoring students in classroom and/or lab settings.
The successful applicants may be expected to teach courses in anatomy and physiology, animal physiology lab, nursing microbiology, cell biology, genetics lab and other courses in the applicants’ areas of expertise.
The ability to teach courses in our Cellular and Molecular; Conservation Ecology and Evolutionary; and/or Aquatic Biology concentrations is desirable.
Required Background Check Yes Salary Information Commensurate with Experience Benefit and Retirement Eligibility This position is eligible for participation in the Optional Retirement Program (ORP), subject to the position being full-time and at least 4 ½ months in length, or the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
