Painter (Oil and Gas Construction) Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and experienced painter to join our team in the oil and gas construction industry.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in heavy sandblasting and epoxy painting techniques.
The role involves preparing surfaces, applying coatings, and ensuring that all painting and coating work meets industry standards and project specifications.
The painter will work closely with Management and other team members to complete projects safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
FLSA Non-Exempt Supervisory Responsibilities None.
Duties/Responsibilities Perform heavy sandblasting of various surfaces including steel structures, pipelines, and equipment to remove rust, corrosion, old coatings, and other contaminants.
Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, degreasing, and applying primers or other preparatory coatings as necessary.
Apply paint, epoxy and other specialized coatings using spray guns, brushes, rollers, or other application methods.
Ensure that all painting work meets project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.
Maintain painting equipment in good working condition, including cleaning, troubleshooting, and performing routine maintenance as needed.
Monitor environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and wind speed to ensure optimal conditions for painting and coating applications.
Follow all safety procedures and protocols to prevent accidents, injuries, and environmental hazards.
Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and other team members to schedule painting activities and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines.
Keep accurate records of materials used, work performed, and hours worked for reporting and billing purposes.
Assist with other construction tasks and duties as needed, including scaffold erection, surface preparation, and equipment maintenance.
Required Skills/Abilities Proven experience as a painter in the oil and gas construction industry, with a strong background in heavy sandblasting and epoxy painting techniques.
Knowledge of surface preparation methods, including sandblasting, power tool cleaning, chemical cleaning, and abrasive blasting.
Familiarity with various types of coatings, including epoxies and zinc-rich primers.
Ability to interpret project specifications (paint specs) to ensure proper coating application and adherence to project requirements.
Strong attention to detail and quality control to ensure that all painting work meets industry standards and project specifications.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks that require bending, lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
Willingness to work in outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions.
Ability to travel to project sites as needed, including overnight stays away from home.
Certification in painting, coating application, or related field is preferred but not required.
Commitment to safety and adherence to all company policies and procedures.
Education and Experience High school diploma or GED At least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Conditions of Employment Must pass a pre-employment Drug & Alcohol test.
Must be eligible to work in the United States Valid Driver’s License and clean MVR.
Physical Requirements A work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require the following basic safety precautions.
Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
Extensive physical activity.
Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 100 pounds & team lifting.
Ability to walk or stand and move about the job site for eight or more hours per day, move on and climb a ladder, sit, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items.
Physical dexterity and coordination to operate painting equipment and perform intricate tasks.
Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights using appropriate safety equipment.
